Two agencies, two sets of letters

If you live in Marin County, you may hear from both the IRS and the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB). They're separate agencies with separate balances, letters and deadlines, so it's easy to mix them up. The first thing I do is line everything up: which letter is from which agency, which tax years it covers, and which one needs attention first. Then I help you sort out what's owed and what to do next with each one.

A lot of tax trouble starts with returns that didn't get filed, often after a hard year, a move, a divorce or a death in the family. With your signed IRS Form 8821, I can pull your IRS transcripts to see which years the IRS has on file, so we know exactly what's missing before we start.

I'm based in Nampa, Idaho, and I work with clients nationwide by phone, text and email. I don't have an office in Marin. For an IRS problem that doesn't matter: the IRS is federal, and the rules are the same in San Rafael, Novato or Mill Valley as they are anywhere else.
